What is RoundUp?
RoundUp is a herbicide manufactured by agrochemical company Monsanto. It is used both on private lawns and gardens by individuals and on large fields of crops grown by commercial farmers. It is the most widely used weed killer in history.
About the RoundUp Lawsuits
In 2015, the International Agency for Research on Cancer (IARC), which is a division belonging to the World Health Organization (WHO), announced that a chemical used in RoundUp products is “probably carcinogenic.”
The chemical in question is called glyphosate. Glyphosate is used in many weed killing products and is therefore present in some quantity in numerous crops and yards worldwide. It is used on almost every acre of corn, cotton, soybeans, and other products grown in the United States. Roughly 300 million pounds of glyphosate is used on crops worldwide every year.
While glyphosate hasn’t been definitively proven to cause cancer, preliminary tests have shown that it leads to DNA and chromosomal damage in human cells, which can eventually lead to cancer. A further suggestion that glyphosate is cancerous is the fact that many people who have been exposed to the chemical have been diagnosed with lymphatic cancers like non-Hodgkin lymphoma.
Currently, there are over 15,000 lawsuits against the manufacturer of RoundUp. The participants are fighting to win compensation for their losses caused by the herbicide.
Symptoms of Non-Hodgkin Lymphoma
Non-Hodgkin's lymphoma (NHL) is a type of cancer that occurs in the body’s lymphatic system, a network that fights disease throughout the body. People with this cancer produce too many abnormal lymphocytes, a type of white blood cell, which builds up to form tumors. NHL can be fatal and death is most often caused by infection, bleeding, or organ failure resulting from metastases.
Common symptoms of non-Hodgkin lymphoma include:
- Abdominal pain
- Chest pain or pressure
- Chronic fatigue
- Difficulty with movement
- Enlarged lymph nodes
- Loss of appetite
- Nausea or vomiting
- Night sweats or chills
- Shortness of breath or cough
- Skin rash
- Swollen belly
- Weight loss
If you or a loved one experiences any of these symptoms following Roundup exposure, visit your doctor as soon as possible.
