What is Zantac (Ranitidine)?

Ranitidine is the generic name for a drug most commonly known by the brand name Zantac. Zantac was created in the 1980s and was used for over 30 years to treat heartburn in patients worldwide. During its heyday, Zantac was the most prescribed drug in the world.

The Risks of Zantac Use

In September of 2019, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) published data that suggested significant amounts of N-Nitrosodimethylamine (NDMA), a known carcinogen, could be found in some Zantac products. The compound was particularly prevalent in Zantac products that had either been on the shelves for an extended period of time or had been exposed to above average temperatures. A few months later, in early 2020, all Zantac products were recalled.

About the Zantac Lawsuit

Currently, many individuals are collectively suing the makers of Zantac and other ranitidine products for damages. The main claim provided in the individual lawsuits is that the drug manufacturers failed to properly warn the public of the dangers of NDMA.

Some of the most common Zantac products that have been associated with NDMA include:

  • Zantac 75

  • Zantac 150

  • Zantac 150 Maximum Strength

  • Zantac 150 Maximum Strength Cool Mint

To join an existing Zantac lawsuit claim, you must satisfy three conditions to potentially qualify:

  • Proven use of Zantac in the past

  • A cancer diagnosis from a medical professional

  • A connection between the diagnosis and Zantac

Only a lawyer can properly evaluate your claim. A Zantac lawsuit lawyer can also help you collect your medical records and find evidence to build a strong case.
